Welcome to CIRF

Contact Improvisation Research Forum (CIRF) acts as a regional locus for the continued world-wide exchange and development of Contact Improvisation (CI) dance practice, performance and exploration. CIRF curates year-round events to provide high quality training and research, including our annual festival, West Coast Contact Improvisation Festival (WCCIF) now in its 23rd year. We collaborate among a cross-section of communities interested in dance, improvisation, somatics and performance. Diversity, financial assistance and physical accessibility are essential components of our programming and decision-making. We aim to inspire and challenge both the professional artist and the beginning mover, providing an environment that cultivates new generations of teachers and dancers.
