Faculty Application Info
AT THE OPENING OF EACH APPLICATION PERIOD, EMAIL INVITES ARE SENT BY CIRF TO FACULTY, PREVIOUS APPLICANTS and CIRF EMAIL LIST.
Click Email Signup Link to join list.
OUR APP IS UPDATED FOR EACH PERIOD, THANKS FOR NOT ATTEMPTING TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION BEFORE RECEIVING AN EMAIL NOTIFYING YOU THE UPDATED APPLICATION IS OPEN.
OCTOBER 2011 NOTE: The application process is currently under redesign, our Spring/Fall 2012 application will be released early 2012. CIRF No longer accepts "guest teachers" or outside production proposals--the only channel to teach at CIRF is to be accepted as a Faculty Member requiring an ongoing relationship of professional development and Continuing Education within CIRF.
CIRF welcomes all qualified applicants for Faculty membership, and new proposals from current Faculty. We encourage you to share this CIRF Faculty Membership Application and Proposal Submission Info,
http://ci-rf.org/faculty_application, with your peers who might not know about CIRF year-round programs and Faculty Membership. Our Faculty Application opens twice per year (December and August) to consider New Applicants for CIRF Faculty Membership and to receive class and intensive proposals for CIRF programs from current CIRF Faculty. (All applicants must be selected for Faculty Membership or have Faculty Dues current as existing members in order for class proposals to be considered.)
NOTE: Between app periods, the info below is FOR REFERENCE ONLY from our last application round, and may change with updates for the next round. We encourage your inquiries by phone, Skype or email before you submit your completed application, though most answers are here--thanks for reading all the way to the bottom of this page.
TO APPLY:
Read this Info Page and prepare the 10 Data Pieces listed below before logging into your account on this website (ci-rf.org) to complete your application. First-time Applicants must send a brief email request (do NOT send CIRF an email essay, it will NOT be considered) with "Faculty App Access Request" in the subject line for temporary access to Faculty links in the application instructions below. THEMES
Note: Themes for Spring 2012 programs and WCCIF 2012 are pending.
The intensive theme for New Year's 2011 was Dancing the Endless Web (Using Fascia) and Poetics of Perception (CI and Performance) with Daniel Davis and Kristen Greco.
The theme for Spring Curated Show 2011 was Mature Collaborations Among Interdisciplinary Performing Artists/Demanding More from CI.
The festival theme for WCCIF 2011 was "New Skills, New Directions." New Skills includes the imparting of CI Technique refinements as well as new/unnamed vocabularies and ways of seeing. "New Directions" includes considering a 4th generation of the diaspora of CI practitioners, and methods for disseminating ideas on physical research, practice, and performance in this time when past formulas aren’t as applicable. So “new” can mean “deeper” or “more effective” as much as “unfamiliar.
CIRF requests you to apply posted themes to your submissions of classes and non-class activities for each application round.
10 DATA PIECES TO PREPARE BEFORE STARTING APPLICATION:
1. Proposal Specifics.
Class Title, Level (Fundamentals, Intermediate or Advanced),
Disabled/Non-Disabled (D/N) designation, Intensive or Single Class. You may propose as many classes or intensives as you wish; only one per round may be accepted. NOTE: Only Single Class proposals will be considered from First Time applicants and teachers who have not yet taught in CIRF programs. Only current CIRF Faculty may submit Intensive proposals.
2. Coordinate with Proposed Co-Teacher, or TA.
To propose Co-Teaching a Single Class or an Intensive, BOTH Co-Teachers must submit separate applications, naming each other as co-teacher. Request to Co-Teach is not a guarantee of acceptance. Co-Teacher requests NOT following the requirement of BOTH Teachers submitting applications will result in automatic rejection of entire proposal. If you're applying to teach the Fundamentals Intensive, a Co-Teacher is REQUIRED. Coordinate your submission with your intended co-teacher, so you both submit at the same time and CIRF receives both applications and contact info. In addition to Co-Teachers Teaching Assistants (granted Work Exchange credit, NOT paid or part of this application process) are encouraged as a way to mentor those who may apply to teach in the future. If you have an existing TA you wish work wit while teaching with CIRF, make sure your proposed TA creates a Login and provides CIRF with their contact information so we can followup with them directly. All TAs are subject to CIRF confirmation.
3. Decide if you are willing to teach Fundamentals Level if needed. All proposals submitted to CIRF are subject to Level change or Duration (Single Class/Intensive) change if needed to balance a CIRF program.
4. Class Description (300-word max) and Non-Class Activity Descriptions. If selected, this will immediately be visible to the public--use sentence case and correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Type out this data piece and save on your own computer (along with #1 and #6) so you just have to cut/paste into the online application form. Web browsers can time-out. Don't risk losing your data and having to rewrite your ideas; do NOT compose your first draft directly in the online form fields. Also type out descriptions for any Discussions, Jam Scores, CuRLs, and Somatic Warm-Ups you wish to propose in addition to your class. CuRLs = Collaborative Research Labs, co-facilitated by Teachers and Participants--at WCCIF festival, 2 hours of Research followed by 30 minutes of Report-Outs from each CuRL Topic. Research from each CuRL is shared in 10-minute summaries, Lecture/Demonstration-style at the end of each Session to a Whole Festival Circle. The Student Performance category applies to all non-curated showings which require Teacher Facilitation, including but not limited to: Site Specific Performance or CuRLs that culminate in Performance. Proposals for (Paid) Curated Performances (2x per year) must include a URL link to video for consideration. All non-Curated (Unpaid, Open Sign-up) Performance is on a onsite sign-up basis.
5. Biography (60-word max). For New Applicants, do not leave any fields blank. For Current Faculty, Bio and Resume will already be stored in your account, but require annual updating. Make sure NO pieces of this application are left blank or out-of-date.
6. Choose Level/Prerequisites.
If your material requires no prior experience or skill, please choose Fundamentals as the level for your class, and type "None" in the Prereqs field. Otherwise, copy/paste the Intermediate or Advanced Prereqs into your Prereqs field, see link for text. CIRF does not permit the use ofAll Levels as a level designation. Please review our Prerequisites Link to pick which CIRF level applies to both your Class and Non-Class Activity Descriptions. Do NOT leave the Prerequisites field blank if you choose Intermediate or Advanced level for your class. After Intermediate or Advanced Prereqs, you may paste in your personal prereqs (if any) describing skills and experience students are expected to have beyond CIRF's prereqs in order to participate in your class.
7. Photo: a headshot (72 dpi jpg is fine) is mandatory. Have it ready to upload into the same page that you will enter your contact information. Use only a recognizeable photo of your face, not of your foot or eye or your whole body dancing. Do NOT leave your headshot blank, or your application will be rejected.
8. Scheduling availability & conflicts.
This applies only to WCCIF Single Class slots and Non-Class Activities, offered in afternoons and evenings. All WCCIF Intensives are offered in the mornings 5 days in a row.
9. Regional Involvement List and (separate) CV.
Paste a text-only version of your CV/resume (it will be longer than visible in the field, but the application will save the entire text.)
Prepare a separate, date-specific, bulleted list of your event and organization involvement indicating Admin/Staff/Production experience, which should include at least 3 recent committees, events, or nonprofit administration teams you have worked with for CI regional events or programs.
10. Teaching Video Link.
Include the URL link to video uploaded to a public site such as FaceBook, YouTube, Vimeo or your own website, showing 5-10 minutes of video of your CI teaching. The number of students doesn't matter, just that we can clearly hear the audio (shut off noisy fans and heaters before you shoot) and see your whole body, in-focus. If you aren't teaching this month, gather some friends and videotape a mock class for one exercise or score progression. Video link will be included with your CIRF Faculty (publicly searchable) CV page.
Your video must have clear audio and should include: A. a physical and verbal exercise demo in English, B. an example of side-coaching/student correction,
C. an example of your style of directing the group and D. an example of your ability to execute crowd control with a class of 10 or more students. Do NOT leave the Video Link field blank, or your application will be rejected. Contact CIRF for video questions or assistance in advance of the deadline.

CIRF POLICIES:
--CIRF Faculty membership is not restricted to any geographic region.
--CIRF Faculty Membership. All New Applicants are first selected for Faculty membership, and then their proposals for CIRF events are considered. Being selected for CIRF Faculty membership requires year-round online involvement as a member of the Teachers' Advisory Group (TAG) which invites participation in online topical discussions, group writing and research projects, polls, and Skype and in-person collaboration opportunities. TAG membership also provides year-round discounts and CV-enhancing benefits through CIRF real-time and online programs. Annual TAG member dues are $50 for those teaching in the current year, $100 for those not teaching in the current year.
To pay or renew your current-year TAG Dues, click on the Membership link.
--TAG Membership and Class selection are separate. For first-time applicants, CIRF may accept your qualifications and offer you Faculty (TAG) Membership (with the Faculty invites and event discounts it includes) but not accept any of your proposal(s). Similarly, current TAG members may not get a proposal accepted; this is not a reflection on their Faculty status. Any Faculty member may accept a position as an Alternate in the event of a Teacher cancellation. If you are selected as an Alternate, we recommend you plan to attend the event(s); take advantage of the opportunity to network with CIRF Faculty and participate in the programs. We will notify you as soon as possible whether a class slot becomes available, starting 2 weeks after the first notification date.
--Childcare. Part-time Childcare is made available to Teachers at CIRF events on a pre-arrangement basis. To apply, please go to the TAG Childcare link.
(TAG pages access limited to current Faculty and applicants, if you can't view the TAG Link, email us for temporary access.)
--TAG Intranet. CIRF TAG members get access to this one-stop-shop Intranet (also known as "CIRFbook") for
Faculty information via the CIRF website. The TAG intranet includes: Teacher Event Info and Sign-ups, Topical Discussion Forums, Collaborative Documentation tools for ongoing multi-location projects, access to the CIRF Database and a growing Resource Archive. Questions posted to Staff on the Intranet are received just like email, and are promptly responded to. To view, go to the TAG Link.
(TAG pages access limited to current Faculty and applicants, if you can't view the TAG Link, email us for temporary access.)
